Dr. Kevin Sloan received the 2017 Public Service Award from the Michigan Dental Association. Dr. Sloan has volunteered countless hours and served his peers as former chair on the MDA's Continuing Education Committee. He also acts as the Pros lead for the Michigan Mission of Mercy fabricating new smiles for many. Dr. Sloan serves on the Hope Dental Clinic Board, and also received the 2017 Heffernan Humanitarian Award. Congratulations Dr. Sloan!
OKEMOS, Mich. –Bonita Davis Neighbors, DDS, is the recipient of the 2016 Michigan Dental Association Emmett C. Bolden Dentist Citizen of the Year Award for her commitment and passion for providing quality access to care for the underserved.
Dr. Neighbors served as both Acting Regional Health Administrator and Regional Dental Director of the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) where she created a program designed to place U of M Dental Students within the MDOC clinics under her supervision. She was previously awarded the Michigan Department of Corrections Directors' Meritorious Service Award for demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and determination while making significant contributions toward improvements in health care delivery. In addition to her involvement with organized dentistry at both the local and state levels, she mentors at risk youth in Ann Arbor and is the chairperson of Ann Arbor Links Inc. Dr. Neighbors is currently on staff at the Hope Dental Clinic.
"This award acknowledges her efforts of integrating the profession of dentistry with the Michigan Department of Corrections, by serving those in need while creating educational opportunities for dental students," said Larry DeGroat, DDS, President of the Michigan Dental Association. "She is a humble and caring dentist who has dedicated much of her career to providing dental care to those in need."
